About Paul

Paul Lee is the General Manager of Equity Tap. He brings around forty years of business experience, including senior work in finance with Mercedes-Benz Finance and with a number of venture capital organisations over the years.

That career has given Paul a view of business from every side of the table: as a financier, as an investor backing growing companies, and as someone who has worked alongside the owners who build them. It is why Equity Tap lends the way it does. Paul is a business person first, not a banker, and he assesses a deal the way an owner would.

Why small business

Paul is passionate about business, and about small business in particular. He knows the stresses owners carry: the payroll that has to be met, the tax bill that arrives at the wrong time, the supplier who wants paying before the customer pays you, the opportunity that will not wait for a bank. He has seen how a slow or rigid lender can turn a timing problem into a crisis.

That is why Paul works with business owners one on one. When you call Equity Tap, there is no credit committee between you and the decision. The person who answers the phone is often the person who makes the call, and Paul makes sure every borrower understands the loan, the costs and the exit before they proceed.

How Paul approaches a deal

  1. Listen to the whole story: what the money is for, why it is needed now and what happens if it does not arrive.
  2. Look at the security and the exit: the property, the equity and how the loan will be repaid.
  3. Give a straight answer quickly: conditional approval on the phone where the deal fits, and a term sheet in about 30 minutes once we have the scenario.
  4. Stay with it to settlement: one team from first call to funds, for business owners and brokers alike.
